A Brief on the Journalism and Mass Communication Programme
" I have been serving as an apprentice journalist to my father who is a veteran freelance journalist himself. The degree programme offered here gives me the robust theoretical underpinnings essential to any journalistic practice.Besides, I get a chance to do my own original assignments blending interviewing skills, photography, writing and even videography sometimes." - Anshul, MA(JMC)
" I wanted to do science writing for media. Since, this university has a boisterous campus with a lot of activities going on, I have enough material for writing reports and press releases. I find the environment enjoyable and knowledgable. We get hands-on experience of reporting from the campus.
Off-campus writing assignments were pursued as an intern at Dastak India- a web channel that features infotainment."-Chanchal, MA(JMC)
" I am still working on my writing skills but what I love here is the scope to experiment with my skills in visual media.
I want to be able to make my own cartoons and caricatures some day. At the moment, I am concentrating on learning by imitating 'the best'. I have come across Mario Miranda- I love the blend of humour, life and oddities that cartoons offer.
One day I will tell a story through my own cartoon characters. One assignment that I am proud of is a triplet of Rao Tula Ram, Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh and Raja Nahar Singh-they belong to different phases of history but their tales are special to our region-unforgettable heroes-my assignment was a visual ode to them."-Veena Rawat, MA(JMC)
" When I joined the course I was a shy graduate, and now with every passing day I am becoming more confident of handling tasks myself. I have assisted my guide in conducting research interviews and opinion polls for the Community Radio station that is on cards. But before that, I have worked with voice modulation and recorded voice overs that have been appreciated."-Jagdeep, MA(JMC)
" This programme offers a rare opportunity to regional students by offering an option to pursue the course in Hindi or English. It is worth considering the option to pursue journalism and mass communication in Hindi as the current government is giving impetus to the national language and print as well as electronic media in Hindi is flourishing. The news universe needs better reporters and media writers in Hindi."-Ragini, MA(JMC)II
But these young journos have more to share about the programme.....

" I am a quiet person and like to go about my work silently. My tutorial assignments made my teacher encourage my writing skills in Hindi and I was recommended by my teachers for internship at Dastak India . After my stint with 'Dastak' did I realize that I had a potential to record voice overs and write well-researched media stories."- Jyoti, MA(JMC)
